I have loved this app for years. It is the backbone of my iOS music production. It is a Hall of Famer.
I have loved this app for years. It is the backbone of my iOS music production. It is a Hall of Famer.
Needs more drum machine and percussion options to be perfect, though. And the iPhone version should at least split in two. I also heard some fret buzz on one of the bass samples, and other inconsistencies in the samples, as well as weird volume surges from note to note.
The interface is unbeatable. Though you could learn to play it in 30 seconds, it would take quite awhile to know all the features!! And thats AWESOME! Good samples too.
This is definitely a go-to app. Not just because of the lush and wonderful sounds that come with it (and free downloadable instruments) but because it can be used as a midi controller. I can not only control my other synths with ThumbJam, I can either use them individually, blend them with ThumbJamb instruments, or blend them with other synth simultaneously! The blending of timbres has produced some amazing sounds. I fear Ill never get any work done again! ;) It also comes with a huge selection of scales. Regardless of how many instruments are on screen at a time (up to four with slots for four more standing by) I can choose an individual scale for each instrument or have them all change to the current one being used and keep that scale even if I change instruments. Selecting a key to play in is simple and if used, makes it so you never hit a wrong note. The visual aspect of this has helped me understand music theory much better. The interface is a breeze to use and very intuitive. You can scale the number of octaves on the screen from a pentatonic to several octaves. It wasnt long before I was able to control notes with three or four fingers. Making the flute flurry or the stringed orchestral instruments trill is easy. There is a four track recorder (which I havent used much) and the ability to play alone with your iTunes music. Comes in handy when Im trying to learn to play a song or just jamming with my favorite tunes! This app has been very well thought out and is one that lives on my iPad dock. I highly recommend it!
The quality of the sounds is amazing and the note controller is excellent. If you are looking for classic and not electronic instruments (e.g. violins, sax, organ, etc), it doesnt get better than this. I highly recommend this app.
Heres the important part... One of the best instruments on the app store. I absolutely LOVE this app. You will too no matter what device you use. In my opinion, a tie for the best controller on iOS. The other being SoundPrizm Pro. This is without a doubt the most expressive app for doing leads. I used this app to control sounds in SynthMaster to do Pink Floyd leads from the Wish You Were Here album. Just amazing. Five star all the way.
This is a great app but a few things are missing. No quantize? I get that its supposed to be more of a looping app, but its hard to get anything sounding right without quantize. Also, no stop/start of the metronome. It just goes and goes, making it harder to sync with other apps. I would use this as my main sampler for live shows but I cant yet. Thanks for the great app though!
Was this app invented to waste peoples time? Better hope you NEVER make mistakes or you could spend hours trying to get a complicated piece recorded. Factor in the lack of an option for a keyboard interface and this app is truly an unbelievable let down. Really a shame because the sounds they have are quite good...but really, Even FIGURE lets you edit loops...
ThumbJam has been around for a long time on the App Store. It has continued to improve, getting more awesome sounds and more unbelievable new features. It is one of the few apps that actually is a unique musical instrument that cannot be duplicated as a hardware instrument. You can play and record sounds like none other and the instrument itself will make a newbie sound like an expert, and an expert sound incredible. If I only had one app, I would make it ThumbJam!
One of those, ‘only on a touch screen is this possible’ type apps that make you happy your purchased your iDevice. Beautiful sounds and easy scales are really only the tip of the iceberg with Thumbjam. There’s a looper. There’s an audio to MIDI converter. There’s split screens (up to 4 instruments on screen at once). It works as an 8 channel multitimbral sampler. It will allow you to play the white notes on your external keyboard and route that MIDI info to another app while TJ superimposes its scale on it (you have to try this to believe it). It’s a sampler. It plays well with every single iOS music making standard including multiple AudioBus outputs. And. So. Much. More. If you own an iDevice and like to make music there’s absolutely no reason for you to not purchase this immediately. You’ll love it.
I love love love this App. From Electric Guitars, Drums, Alto Sax to World Instruments & everywhere in between, this App is Loaded, you can even sample your own instruments. I sampled the open strings on my Classical Guitar, & added it to the Library! But theres more... you can download or create your own loops. Just amazing!
you can make some great stuff with this app, also theres alot of free instruments, samples and beats to download. Ive always loved oriental folk music and i finally made my own with this beautiful piece of tech. The song sounded like i could actually play the instruments,my wife thought i was bull sh**ing her. she couldnt believe the sounds you cam get from it. if you love and/or want to make your own stuff you need this app in your arsenal. i hooked up my iPad to some amplified pc speakers, then play some power chords, its almost like standing in front of a marshall holding a Les Paul, which neither ill ever be able to own. but this was close enough and a lot cheaper.
Im a music producer and love the realistic sounds and emotions that ThumbJam is capable of producing. Want expressive, realistic sounding instruments? Definitely, use ThumbJam! -AprilRox @ AprilRox Sudios, LLC
Excellent work - please keep it going!
This is probably my favorite app in the world. It is a must have.
Ive had this app for a while now and I think its time for a quick review. First off, they have a crap ton of free instruments! They all sound very realistic even the ones that come stock with the app. Its very accurate and it doesnt sound cheap. Im still learning how to use most of the app since there is a ton of different options and tweaks. I highly recommend this app for any music makers out there.
I have had ThumbJam for a few years, since my iPhone 4, and it is still one of my favorite apps and a rare gem that I have bought for several other people because I am so enamored with it. Not too many but there are a few instruments that play like the real one might. And I can’t say this is something you could play in a band. But if you like to explore instruments, especially if you have kids, then this is one of the best out there for just the sheer number of instruments available and the quick and easy way of switching from one to another. If you have kids I highly recommend this, and if your don’t it’s fun to play with.
Honestly best musical app on here. Also you buy once and you can then DL it free to all your devices. Unlike Korg n a few others here you can not. Buy this app you well be happy you did n then go online. Great Web site and allot of good people hang out there.
This is/was a terrific controller and general-purpose "jam" app for playing with ideas and sketching compositions. It gives you a broad range of tools and voices along with a well-implemented and expressive pad controller. TJ got lots of details right. Although things have progressed a lot in iOS music space since its heyday, it set some standards and still holds them high. I hope this dev or another revives this project.
This app has a special quality to it that cant be described - it has to be experienced first hand. Easy to dive into, but loaded with many deep (and incredibly useful) features. The UI is well designed and a pleasure to use. Sound quality is, of course, excellent. The MIDI features included with TJ are also stellar. Cant recommend this app enough. To the developer - fabulous job.
